Six detained migrants, five Iranian and one Afghan, are still as from yesterday morning on the roof of the Menoyia Detention Centre – without shade, water or food, in temperatures over 40 degrees, in a dynamic protest against their long-term detention, without any prospects for either their release or deportation.
This is the third time in
the space of two month that these particular migrants adopt this form of
protest as, despite the repeated promises by the competent authorities for
examining their cases and their immediate release, they continue to be
detained.
KISA – Action for Equality,
Support, Antiracism points out that these particular migrants are asking for
the end of their up to 32-month detention.
(...)
KISA calls on the Ministry
of Interior and the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to:
- Act immediately in order to solve all problems faced by the particular detainees and to protect their lives,
- To engage in a real public dialogue with all stakeholders involved, including civil society, for reviewing the detention and deportation policies, so as to establish long-term solutions to the problems.
