Col. Zaher Abu Shihab, Zaatari’s camp director, said the 120,000-resident make-shift city, classified as the second-largest refugee camp in the world, will close its doors to new arrivals next week with the planned opening of a new camp in the eastern Jordanian desert.
The closure comes as Jordanian and relief officials look to overhaul Zaatari’s internal structure in order to boost camp security.
