More than 200 Eritreans were forcibly deported from the Misratah detention centre on the coast of Libya to the Braq detention centre, near Sabha, in the Sahara desert on 30th of June. They have been beaten and severely deprived of food and water. Many are now injured and need emergency care. The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and the Italian Council for Refugees (CIR) call upon all authorities involved to ensure that refugees are not repatriated to Eritrea where they are at risk of torture and ill- treatement. The foreseen visit of the Eritrean Embassy should not entail either deportation or retaliation against the families of refugees in Eritrea.
