Stop racist crimes and deportation !
Respect migrants' dignity !
Picket organised on Thursday 11 September 2014 , 6 p.m in front of the Parliament
A 26 year old man, Charles Paul Alphonse Ndour, was
killed with a knife on August 30th following a clamp down on
Sub-saharan migrants by locals that also saw many injured without the police
intervened to stop this attack. Following this tragic events, a group of
migrants has taken on the streets to denounce this crime and call for those
responsible to be held accountable.
This march was followed by the arrest of
dozens of migrants, 26 of whom were prosecuted in a hasty manner in less than
72 hours and condemned to 1 month imprisonment (bail in exchange for 1,000 dh
fee). Instead of being released, 20 of these people were deported from
Casablanca airport and the 6 remaining one were detained in the basement of the
airport after they announced they would start a hunger strike in protest to
their detention and the treatment they were facing. The 6 people were
eventually released.
Despite the Moroccan authorities’ pledge for a new
migration policy, 6 migrants have died over the past year, not to mention the
numerous racist attacks and the massive deportations being conducted. The
regularization policy is extremely slow and only saw a lucky few accessing the
procedure as the UNHCR itself is warning that the procedure is not fair to
asylum-seekers either.
The AMDH is denouncing the impunity surrounding yet
another murder of a person from the migrant community in Morocco, and calls on the
authorities to:
-
Investigate publicly this crime
-
Prosecute perpetrators
-
Abide by the international conventions signed by
Morocco
A sit-in is organised tomorrow 11 September in front of
the Parliament at 6 p.m. A solidarity march will be convened as well later on
in Tangier.
