[Jordan/Syria]: The Jordan Times - Syrian exodus to Jordan grows amid aerial strikes

In southern Syria near the border region, Syrian regime forces reportedly intensified their 10-week military offensive, threatening the lives of thousands of refugees.

Rebel officials claimed that Sunday marked the heaviest shelling in the two-month campaign, which has claimed the lives of over 170 refugees, according to the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

“The rockets are falling so often that we have been unable to collect the injured or the dead for days now,” said Abu Mohammad Al Naimi, an FSA officer based on the outskirts of Sheikh Al Maskin, the site of heavy shelling on Sunday and where an estimated 2,000 displaced civilians have taken refuge.

An estimated 20,000 displaced Syrians have reportedly been prevented from crossing into Jordan due to border closures.
