[Jordan/Syria]: The Jordan Times - Danish delegation examines ways to support refugee host communities

Speaking on behalf of the Danish government and Princess Mary, patron of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Minister for Development Cooperation Christian Bach commended the Kingdom’s efforts in supporting Syrian refugees.

“We will do our best to support not only Syrian refugees, but also the host communities,” he said at a joint press conference held at the Planning Ministry on Thursday following a closed-door meeting.

Under its mandate, the DRC focuses on protection, relief, rehabilitation, post-conflict recovery and capacity-building efforts.

“We are considering a programme to strengthen our direct assistance for Syrian refugees and host communities to be carried out with other European countries,” he said, noting that the assistance will focus on education and job creation, in addition to protecting girls and women.

“We also want to continue with our support for the [open-border] policy of Jordan to make sure that the Kingdom can continue to do so and move on towards reform,” the minister noted.
