In remarks to The Jordan Times, Labour
Minister Nidal Katamine said the move is aimed at addressing the
increasing number of guest labourers working illegally in the Kingdom.
“The guest workers will have around 18 days to abide by the regulations,” Katamine noted.
“Those who fail to take advantage of the
ministry’s initiative will be repatriated, and we will not hesitate to
implement the law and the relevant regulations in cooperation with the
Interior Ministry,” the minister said.
According to the ministry’s database, a total of 7,174
guest workers have been found in violation of labour regulations since
April this year, of whom 735 were repatriated.
Nearly 1.5 million guest labourers are working in the
country, according to the minister, adding that this figure shows the
magnitude of the effort needed to ensure all these workers abide by
labour regulations.
