A man was seriously injured after falling from a
roof while trying to escape a migrant detention centre in north-eastern Italy,
authorities said Tuesday.
The 35-year-old Moroccan man, who was being held in
an immigration centre in Gradisca d'Isonzo in the province of Gorizia, is being
treated in hospital in Trieste with life-threatening injuries. He had been
facing deportation and reportedly said he would not leave. Another immigrant
from the centre was also injured in the attempted escape that grew out of a
protest at the centre.
