[Europe]: PICUM - Undocumented migrant children and their families face major barriers to access services in Europe

BRUSSELS, 27 February 2013 –The Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) yesterday called on policymakers, civil society and professionals to ensure full access to fundamental rights for undocumented migrant children and their families in Europe. PICUM’s conference in Brussels, on realizing the rights of children and families in an irregular migration situation, highlighted the barriers undocumented children and their families face on a daily basis in Europe.

François Crépeau, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants stressed: "Irregular migration is not a crime per se. There is no threat to anyone or anything. As long as we don’t decriminalize irregular migration, migrants will suffer and especially migrant children."
