Existing in Limbo – The conditions of Homeless Migrants
in Europe
16th November, Barcelona, Spain
This event is organised by FEANTSA, the European Federation of
National Organisations Working with Homeless People, with the support of local
partners – fePsh, the Spanish Federation of Organisations Supporting Homeless
People and the Caixa Forum.
Discrimination, disadvantage and segregation play a significant role in creating barriers to access to housing, health and social services, education and other fundamental rights for migrant groups and the fact that similar discriminative practices occur in very different countries lead us to consider the patterns of discrimination as systematic and persistent. There is evidence that in most European Member States, migrants are often subjected to ill-treatment that ranges from being refused a property because of their origin to physical attacks, the aim of which is to keep them out of a particular neighbourhood, thus reinforcing or creating social exclusion.
The Conference will address all these issues and many more during two plenary sessions with experts and with migrants who have experience of homelessness as well as during eight interactive workshops organised thematically around the most relevant issues relating to migration and homelessness.
