ESTABLISHING a Common European Asylum System, completing discussions for a financial framework for 2014-2020, and harnessing volunteer power for civil protection issues are among the priorities of the Interior Ministry during Cyprus' six-month presidency of the EU, Interior Minister Eleni Mavrou said yesterday. EU states have committed to establishing a Common European Asylum System by the end of 2012. The aim is to bring more harmonisation to standards of protection by further aligning the member-states' asylum legislation.
