The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has published a report on “Child Trafficking in the EU - Challenges, perspectives and good practices”. The report finds that a substantial number of children fall victim to trafficking for sexual exploitation or other purposes every year, but that a clear definition of child trafficking is lacking in both the EU legal framework and at member state level, and that there are generally very few final convictions in child trafficking cases. It argues that the goal of regulating immigration should not be allowed to overshadow the best interests of victims of child trafficking, and calls for better legislation to combat child trafficking and improved protection and care for victims.
