One of the major tasks of the upcoming Swedish presidency of the EU in the second half of 2009 will be the adoption of the next multi-annual programme on the area of freedom, security and justice (AFSJ). The Stockholm Programme will be the successor of the 2004 Hague Programme, and will present the EU's strategic action plan in matters including police and customs cooperation, criminal and civil law cooperation, asylum, migration, visas and checks at external borders.
